"The Insurance Company Handles That"
It's the most common thing we hear from restoration contractors, and it's half true.
The carrier does handle the coverage. ALE gets approved, a limit gets set, and on paper the family has somewhere to go. What the carrier doesn't do is place them. There's a difference between confirming that money exists and getting a family of five with a dog into a house by Thursday.
That gap is where your job gets harder.
What actually happens to the family
Coverage gets confirmed. Then the homeowner — who just lost their house, is sorting through what's salvageable, and has never filed a claim like this before — is expected to go find housing themselves.
Most of them do the obvious thing and book an extended-stay hotel, because it's the option they know. A two-week estimate turns into three months. Now there's a family living in two hotel rooms, eating restaurant food, with kids driving across town to school and pets boarded somewhere else.
They are not calling their insurance company about it. They're calling you.
Why this lands on your schedule
A displaced family in a bad living situation experiences every delay differently. A materials backorder isn't a scheduling note — it's another week in a hotel room. Permitting delays aren't your fault, but they're absorbed as your fault.
That pressure shows up as daily calls, pushes to cut corners on scope, and reviews written by someone who was miserable for reasons that had nothing to do with your workmanship.
Housed families are patient families. When the household is stable, the timeline stops being a crisis and goes back to being a timeline.
What we do
We take the housing off your plate entirely:
-
Place the family in a furnished home suited to their household
-
Look for homes that accept pets, so families stay together
-
Handle the carrier and ALE administrator coordination
-
Handle the lease and the paperwork
-
No cost to the homeowner
-
Manage extensions when the repair timeline moves, which it usually does
You keep your client. You keep your schedule. You stop being the person they call about housing.
